![]() The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is planning to illuminate 11 gates, of which nine are declared as the protected monuments and are being maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). AMC is also planning to complete the project by December 25. “We are planning to illuminate all the darwajas in the walled city. Our aim is to bring these precious assets back in the spotlight. Not many cities have such a heritage and we want people to notice such things about our city,” said municipal commissioner I P Gautam adding that, “AMC will also light up Bhadra Fort under this project.” However, the AMC is awaiting the ASI’s nod before it goes in for the illumination. “The municipal corporation has approached us, but we have not yet given final approval to the project,” said an ASI official. According to sources, ASI wants the corporation to focus on encroachment near the monuments. “We have asked the civic body to first clean the place and remove the encroachment around the monuments and then focus on decorating it,” added the source. “They will have to follow the standards set by the archaeological department. We will also have to ensure that lights do not harm the monuments,” an official said. 11 Gates of Ahmedabad Teen Darwaja Panchkuva Darwaja Astodia Darwaja Raipur Darwaja Sarangpur Darwaja Premabhai Darwaja Kalupur Darwaja Dariapur Darwaja Delhi Darwaja Jamalpur Darwaja Khanpur Darwaja |
