His desire for a gilded life landed alleged con man Ashok Jadeja in jail. But even this has not turned out to be as tough a deal as you think. In fact, the Sarkhej police lockup has turned into Jadeja’s guesthouse, where he can access all basic luxuries of life.

The self-proclaimed godman, who has allegedly duped people of Rs 1,800 crore, has been in this lockup for a month now. While other inmates swelter in the summer heat, Jadeja enjoys the cool breeze flowing from a standing fan placed outside his cell. “He is one of the few here who enjoys a good night’s sleep, thanks to the brand-new fan,” say sources.
While police confidently say the fan is sarkari, sources claim it has been bought by Jadeja’s family.
Jadeja and his wife Neeta were arrested on May 31, 2009 at Shivranjani Crossroads. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad Rural) R K Patel recovered Rs 1.98 crore from their car
“At noon, Jadeja dons ironed clothes and goes to the cabin of Police Sub-Inspector S M Parmar where he meets his men. At 12.30 pm, a woman brings a huge tiffin for Jadeja. It is large enough to feed six people. Not only Jadeja, even his men enjoy home-cooked food at the police station,” sources said.
When contacted, Director General of Police Chittranjan Singh said, “If an accused is in police custody, we provide them things demanded on medical grounds. It is their right.”
Informed about the fan, Singh said, “I do not know anything about this. I just got to know of it from you.”
Sarkhej Inspector D R Patel, who is investigating 13 cases lodged against Jadeja, said, “The accused is in police remand. There are 11 accused in his cell. He is undergoing medical treatment. Considering the rising heat, we did not want him to suffocate. So we provided him with a fan.” Of course, there are no answers as to why he is allowed visitors or given the permission to use PSI’s office as his meeting place?

Even when he was arrested, sources say, there was a “settlement” and subsequently it seems he was carrying more cash than that reportedly revealed by the police.
Most complaints against the alleged con man have been lodged by members of the Chhara community Police from Rajasthan, Maharastra and other states interrogated Jadeja and his associates
Story so far...
Most complaints against the alleged con man have been lodged by members of the Chhara community. Jadeja used to identify himself as ‘Jai Madi’. Claiming to have been blessed by Mata Sikotar, he promised to double and treble money miraculously. Hundreds of people fell for his spiel and gave thousands of crores to him. Jadeja duped people from Gujarat, Delhi, Rajasthan and other neighbouring states through the money-multiplying scheme. Officials said that a total of 560 complaints were registered against Jadeja.
Police from Rajasthan, Maharastra and other parts of the country came to Gujarat to interrogate Jadeja and his associates. On July 24, 2009, Jadeja admitted he had no godly or mystical powers. In addition, he also revealed that some policemen and bootleggers had also benefitted from his “money-multiplying scheme”. He stated that he personally earned Rs 20 crore and that many others had made more than him.
